What I have been up to lately

  • Mood:

Well, I thought it pass time to update on what’s been going on in my life. Same Stuff just a different day, that about sums it up.

My day goes something like this: I get up between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm (depending on when I got home that morning) and take the next two hours to wake up, eat, shower, make and pack my meal for work, and then drive 1 ¼ to 1 ½ hours (60 miles) to work. Once there it takes about an hour to put my stuff in my tractor, get fuel, hook up to my load, scale the load and make adjustment so the weight is legal, and do my paperwork before I can leave. That’s if the loads ready, sometime I wait an hour or two for it. Then with all that done I drive 4 ¾ hour (weather and traffic permitting) to the other side of Pittsburgh, PA. (300 miles). If I’m lucky I can drop that load and my return load is there so I can hook up and return, and if I’m not I wait up to 4 hour for it to get there. So then I drive the 300 miles back to my terminal. Normally, 2 hours to get going, 9 ½ to 10 hours driving, ¾ hour at the other side of Pittsburgh, and another half hour back at my terminal. So I work anywhere from 12 ¼ (short day) to 16 hour (long day), plus almost 3 hours driving to and from work. When I get home I take an hour to unwind and eat before going to bed for four hour and then get up and do it all over again. Sometimes I go to other terminals to pickup or drop a loaded trailer. The shortest day I have just from the time I have gotten to work till I left for home is 11 hours. The longest is 18 hours and yea with an almost 3 hour drive to and from home I don’t have much time for doing anything else. I drive between 2,800 and 3,000 miles for work and 300 miles to and from work every week.

My work week starts Monday afternoon and goes to Saturday afternoon. On Saturday I stay up a few hours after I come home so I can see my family then go to bed for 4 to 6 hours so I can see them again for a couple hours before they go to bed. Then stay up till about 7 am Sunday and sleep till about 3 pm then stay up till about 4 am Monday morning. I’m up while everyone else in the house is in bed sleeping and sleeping while everyone else is up most of the time.

Last week I did do something I have not done in over eight years and have only done 3 times in 36 years of working. I called off sick on Tuesday, I don’t know what the heck hit me, but I could not function and had a hard time just getting up out of the chair. I was coughing; my head hurt, my stomach was doing flips. I felt like I was about to die and I almost wished I would, that had to feel better than I was. I think my wife was in shock because I brought up calling off (normally she tells me to call off, but I go in anyway, I figure if I’m going to be miserable anyway I may as well be working). Yeah well, I was feeling better the next day (at least I could get up and move around) and went off to work.

I’ve been fighting off a bad double sinus and double ear infection and I broke down today and called the doctors for an antibiotic so I can get knock down. I can never get rid of them completely even with antibiotic because of my allergies so I am always fighting back the infections. About 2 or 3 times a year I need an antibiotic to knock it back to where I can control it again for awhile.

Well, that’s enough for now. I’m off to watch recorded TV shows from this past week that I missed, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battle Star Galactica.
